Bring hither the truth...

This does not happen often. I need your help. Yes, you read correctly. I am dealing with a bit of a situation here and need to leech upon your combined wisdom. I will ask a simple question. Yes, I could put it in a poll, but this is far too important. Let me explain...

Many years ago (many of you may remember) Mom or Dad bought a fake Christmas tree. On the day after Thanksgiving, (it was a bit cold, but not too bad; a long boring day with no school and nothing to do) I, along with some others, decided that it was a great idea to decorate for Christmas. I went out to the shed, grabbed the tree, brought it into the house, brushed off the dust and debris (inside the house, of course) and proceeded to set up the tree. 5 minutes later I was done. So easy. Now came the lights, the stockings, the other decorations, etc... I thought nothing of it at the time nor did I think much of it for many years. Until almost 4 years ago.

Ashley and I are about to celebrate our first Christmas together. How wonderful it was. Snow was abundant, the smell of cinnamon danced in our nostrils, Mannheim was playing on the stereo, and the new and old decorations were hung. We only lacked one thing. The mother of all Christmas decorations. That's right, the tree. Ashley and I sat down to talk over this dilemma. I asked her, "Dearest Ashley, whatever shall we do? I think it necessary to go get a Christmas tree." Ashley replies "I agree, dear husband. You are so wise. Where shall we go to get a real Christmas tree?" Timeout.
At this point, we discuss the matter further and decide, at long last, to get a real tree instead of a fake one. We decide that it would be wonderful to have that authentic pine smell dancing in our nostrils instead of the cinnamon. The next 2 years were the same.

Now, I will ask you, dear reader - that age old question that burns within us all - Which is better, the fake Christmas tree or the real Christmas tree? Think about this as long as you need. I will not tell you about the suffering, the pain, the anguish that this question has brought down upon my small family. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. It is not too early to start thinking about Christmas, so don't even start down that road. I know what you are thinking before you write it. It snowed last night in case you didn't see it. You may think that I should work for Kozy 106.5, and maybe I should. As far as I'm concerned, it's all Christmas all the time from here on out.
P.S.S. Halloween and Thanksgiving are awesome.
P.S.S.S. My trophy is even more awesome.
P.S.S.S.S. Ashley and I are very much in love and work through our minor disagreements like adults.

As a wise man, I will elaborate because I know that you are not the one that needs convincing...

to take care of the pine smell...they have a variety of air fresheners or febreeze that will work just fine.

Fake pine needles to not litter all over your carpet.

you can buy one fake tree and use it for many years. You never have to chop it down and haul it home. You don't have to worry about that retarded stand with the screws.

Yes we are fake Christmas tree people at our house. I dont think its too early to think about Christmas either, I am already getting the urge to put the tree up but I have to supress it until the week of Thanksgiving.

Its just so much easier with a fake tree, not only is ours fake this year but its pre-lit. It doesnt get much easier or fake than that.
To quote Tyson because I dont really war things "War buying a Christmas tree a week AFTER Christmas on clearance (retail 169.00, paid 29.99)" Thats true!

First things first, If I ever hear the word manheim again, you are off team awesome. Understood? that word, or its associated sounds are unawesome. I feel like I need to jam screwdrivers into my eardrums to stop the insanity when I hear that techno, synthesized garbage. Moving right along, I would agree with Tyson somewhat, in that pretend trees do not shed. real trees, or dead trees tend to smell nice and stuff, but are not unlike hairy little animals that deposit their sheddings. It does however depend on the quality of either real or unrealness. In your mom's case the tree (fake) also looks a little like it was nourished in a somalian death camp. it has like 3 twigs on each side lending it to be nearly transparent. Icabod crane could not even hide behind it. Real trees, tend to be a little fuller or robust so to speak, unless the fake tree purchased is of higher quality.
If you do purchase a fake tree, you have to pull it down and pack it up instead of throwing it by the mailbox for 3 weeks until the christmas beetles devour the poor thing.

Alright, thanks for the opinions. I am quite enjoying them. As for the BEST Christmas music out there... Yep. I will continue to not only use, but abuse Manheim Steamroller music. I fancy myself quite a collector of Christmas music and even gave your mom a 3 disk all inclusice Christmas music A-Z set last year. Trust me on this - Manheim is good. There is other good stuff to, but come on. Do I need to put some on a playlist on the blog? I am not afraid. Bloglings - a little help on this?
War everything like 80% off after Christmas.

the only person authorized to say that manheim sounds good is Helen Keller.
I just said that.

Okay I have the solution as I have already solved the same problem I have with this. You get a fake tree, you might have to spend a little green though, or you do get an etheopian looking anorexic tree. But then you buy the salt city candle that is "Christmas tree" scent. And your good. P.s. War maniheim steamroller. War narada. War christmas music that's not opera style. P.s. Christmas starts the day after halloween.

It's true. I am the one that needs the convincing. Even though they are cleaner, cheaper (in the long run), easier to put up/decorate I still will always want a real tree. Casey even bought me the Salt City pine candle last year because I love the smell so much. I know I have no argument. For me, the real tree is just one of the symbols of Christmas. My parents (who probably instilled in me this love from so many Christmases growing up) even went to the fake trees out of ease. Yes, I was devastated, I thought they'd hold out like me. I guess it's just one of those things that I have to have a little "come to grips" with. I give in. We will probably use the extra tree of my parents' this year & buy one afterwards on sale. sigh.

Accepting defeat graciously as always Ashley. Its okay.. we all have to give up on some things....well...except Ri-bone...for some reason he can hold on to anything.

War Manheim, Yep 3 wars to 1 unwar, means not only is it awesome...but it is huhuhuhuhuHUGE!

War the absolute customization of blogs.

True Ashley. It's time to let go... but what I also belive in is every couple years getting a real one. That's what I want to do, I haven't asked sam yet so.... Sam, does that sound good? But there's actually two scents that have christmas tree and the other one is cinnamon spuce I think. I will say it... I am worried about the response I will get.... but here goes... war salt city candles. There I said it, I like them okay. That's not gay. I dont like my house to smell "men". I am curiouse as to the counsels decision on that. Much to the voting of tecno chrismat music, we will find out if this particular candle company is worthy of team awesome. -what about in the case of a 2-2 tie?

Well, the mother is about to speak. Yes, I succombed to the laziness of getting a fake Christmas tree and yes it was even a cheap fake Christmas tree and every year it looked faker and faker...(how's that for an English Major?) But...this year we have a new fake tree that should look a little nicer than our old one with missing limbs. you know, maybe when you have raised 8 children on a school teachers salary you will understand my financial priorities a little more. Anyway, Ashley and Casey...I love love love real trees. That is part of Christmas. Some of my very favorite memories are of going out into the woods near Roosevelt, sometimes even in the snow, and cutting our own Christmas tree. Do you all remember how FUN!!! that was. Say yes. And, Ashley and Casey, if you cut your own, or buy them fresh, you keep them in water and they don't dies and shed. I recommend at least sometimes, getting a real one. How about this....next year (or this if you want) during the Thanksgiving break, we all drive to Roosevelt and cut Christmas trees? Come on, it would be fun!

Yes I remember only one time though doing that. There was lots of snow. By the way mom, charlie brown called, and he wants his tree back. (call me if you need to borrow the movie, cause that comment was hilariouse!) The tree I wanted to get last year sam wouldn't let me. It was like 10 feet tall and like $400 dollars. One year, I will own that thing, and it will be sweet. I do have an awesome train though that cruises around the tree. About the trees though, I present we just go up Payson canyon and chop suey one down. I call running the cutting/destructive device, be it a chainsaw or normal saw.

I remember going out to cut a tree....and what I remember thinking is this...
"Sweet, this will be fun..."
five minutes later "This is retarded, lets go home. I already hate Christmas just becuase I am out here freezing cold, and every single person wants to cut down a different tree.

As far as salt city candles? I don't know if they deserve a War, but you can say that you like them...just don't get to specific. And mom, why on earth would we ever drive to Roosevelt just to cut down a tree? But then again, Roosevelt is known for its awesome trees....wait no it's not.

Mom, that sounds so awesome! I want to spend my Thanksgiving break from school and work by driving to Roosevelt, freezing off 3 of my 20 digits, cutting down a tree, somehow strapping it onto one of our cars, driving it home so the wind rips every needle off of it in the 3 hour drive, and setting it up. Or, I could spend time relaxing at home or somewhere near there. Nice and cozy warm. What do you think sounds better? Honestly. And by the way, cutting the trunk a little and putting the tree in water delays the death process for like 25 minutes. It still sheds and dies. Tried that one. I love you mother.

Denise I will go with you--maybe not to Roosevelt for the good points already mentioned but instead to Soldier Hollow. I believe they allow tree cutting after you purchase a permit. I can find out details if you're interested.
